Second Story Addition (1932 House)Located in a popular neighborhood in Takoma Park, MD and built in 1932, this small house received a simple second story addition. The addition added two bedrooms and two bathrooms to increase overall living space for the family.

Kitchen & Dining Room AlterationIn the popular town of Takoma Park (MD) many houses were built in the 40s and 50s and are in need of upgrades. Like many other houses in the neighborhood, this one could not accommodate modern appliances such as a double door refrigerator, a dishwasher, or a larger sized kitchen sink as there was virtually no counter space. The homeowner also wanted to rebuild the exterior retaining wall, upgrade the main electrical panel, and stop the upper floor from overheating on hot summer days.

Mudroom Window Seat & KitchenTo improve the entry area of the home, the family requested a small mudroom addition adjacent to their newly remodeled kitchen. We then added a bump-out with a window seat to help the family room feel more connected to the backyard. The larger windows result in living spaces that are much more light-filled than before.

Kitchen & Screened Porch AdditionThis client came to us with the hope of adding a screened porch to enjoy the outdoors and to create a larger kitchen and family room. The new design includes a kitchen island that serves as a central connecting point to the bathroom, living room, exterior, and screened porch. The sliding doors of the new screened porch are a perfect segue to the outdoors, and coupled with large windows, result in lots of natural lighting and seamless connectivity to the outside.

Master Bedroom AdditionThis client came to us with the hope of being able to add an addition that would include a master suite, a guest bedroom with a home office, and a larger kitchen and dining area. We were able to design a two-story addition that included all of their desired features with a footprint of less than 400 sq ft. The additional space now enables the family to entertain guests better, have dedicated spaces for their kids to play, and enjoy a new private master suite.

Two-Story AdditionThis client in Takoma Park, MD had an old screened porch that needed to be updated. They initially thought of doing a single story sunroom addition to replace it, but after consultation with their financial advisers, they decided to add two floors. The first floor is their new family room and the second floor added a master bathroom with shower and tub, a walk-in closet, and a small study.

One-Story AdditionThis growing family was in need of additional space, especially for a first floor bathroom. To move the laundry room into the new addition and have an additional bedroom with a bathroom close by was an important feature. To incorporate environmentally friendly features, the exterior was finished with fiber cement siding over a 1” insulation foam board. This client came to us with complete County-approved drawings, adding 560 sq ft to the house.

Cedar Screened PorchWe had the honor of building this porch using cedar timbers and ipe hardwood flooring. Additional design features included a barrel vault skylight to maintain natural lighting in the living room, wall sconces and ceiling fans for artificial lighting, and an outdoor charging station for the lawn mower.
